James’ award-winning writing has spanned everything from scripts for live action, animation and audio, to copywriting on billboards, socials and TV commercials. He’s written countless scripts for TVCs, social content, narrative music videos, sketches, short films, and is also now venturing into long-form.
He’s very flexible tonally (sadly not so much physically) and thus these scripts ranged from super goofy, to super serious (and sometimes, a balance of the two).
Being from a working class background, James’ films often poke fun at social hierarchy with a satirical wit. He uses meticulous precision in his visuals and has a passion for character driven stories; striking a balance between abstract and realism, comedy and drama.
NARRATIVE / FILM:
His recent debut comedy drama short film ‘Victory To The Mimers’ is now live, and featured on Directors Notes. You can stream the film on Youtube here.
It’s gained a shortlist at the Young Director Awards during Cannes Lions, 4 x Award Longlists at The British Short Film Awards (including “Best British Short Film”), and selections at BAFTA and BIFA qualifying festivals such as Aesthetica, ShortCom and Norwich Film Festival (where it was also nominated for “Best British Film”).
His other work has gained nominations at the UKMVAs, Berlin Commercial, Kinsale Sharks, and has won 4 x Promax Awards (with 7 x nominations), also playing at BAFTA, Oscar and BIFA qualifying festivals such as Raindance, Atlanta Film Festival, and London Short Film Festival.
He has various other writing projects on his slate, which can be seen below. To enquire, please email.
SHORTFORM / ENTERTAINMENT / TV:
Variety truly is the spice of life, and it’s hard to keep track of the amount of words he’s put to paper and screen. Like the time he wrote copy for a batch of 150 different On-Air idents for the global rebrand of an entertainment giant, or the time he served up lines for Danny Dyer (script lines, you absolute animal).
He’s had the pleasure of witnessing his words brought to life by actors and voice artists such as Lee Ingleby, Steve Furst, Danny Dyer and Becky G, to TV personalities such as Maya Jama, Rylan Clark, Iain Stirling, Charlotte Crosby, Rita Ora, Blake Webber, Oobah Butler and many more.
All of the work found on this website (and here) originated from his frantic keyboard tapping, so to get a feel for his writing skills please take a look around!

About:
James was given an early 10-page draft of “The Mimers” by co-writer Steve Furst, which he then re-wrote into a new 15 page screenplay. This was then made into a short film, also directed and exec produced by James.
It’s a satirical comedy drama loosely inspired by the infamous UK Miner’s strikes; however this time, the fight isn’t in the pits, but on the stage.
With his beloved family trade targeted by a right-wing government with a long-standing hatred for the arts, a Mime performer desperately rallies the troops for a silent revolution, vowing to save the arts from facing the final curtain.
